As reported by Fox News in Detroit, when children are actually missing worldwide, a mother allegedly files a false report. What would she do if the child were missing? Unfortunately it wouldn’t be an isolated instance.

A 2-year-old Detroit boy was found safe less than a day after his mother reported him kidnapped — and the mom is now facing charges of lying about the ordeal and filing a false police report, according to police.

Charles James Squalls was reported missing Tuesday night after his mother told cops two men assaulted her and took her son while they were out on a walk at roughly 9:30 p.m.

Update:

A 21-year-old woman and her 18-year-old friend were charged Friday with extortion and other counts after prosecutors said they faked the kidnapping of the woman’s 2-year-old.
