In yet another abuse of the Amber Alert system, a Fort Lauderdale, Florida man was arrested after he provided false information concerning an alleged carjacking. The alert was later canceled.
Breaking news from FOX 13:
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the boy was with his stepmother in the car when two men approached the vehicle on the street. The woman had just left a bank when one suspect, who was armed, forced her out of the car. The child stayed inside the car.
According to the Miami-Herald, Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) spent five hours searching for the boy. BSO spokesman Elliot Cohen had this to say after several comments from the victim didn’t appear to add up.
”When there is even the possibility of a child in danger, it’s not a tough call to make,” Cohen said. “We don’t have the time to see if every piece of the story checks out.”
